Por quê? / Why?

Olha só quem está desenhando! Eu ansiei por este dia! Parece que demorou tanto, mas eu sei que está no tempo certinho... Que delícia! Agora eu to gastando a criança, pedindo pra ela desenhar pra mim o tempo todo, tão lindinha! Vai dizer que essa princesa que ela fez não está fenomenal? hein? hein? ^^

Como a esperteza não é pouca, entramos também com tudo na faze do "por quê?"
É o dia inteiro no "por que mamãe?" e eu to me esforçando pra responder responder e responder sem nenhum "porque sim". E agora, no final do dia, ela já sabe me explicar qual foi sua parte preferida do dia que passou e qual não gostou. Sabe direitinho apontar suas razões!
Também voltamos com sucesso para a aula de natação, e demos entrada na matricula na nova escolinha, que ela começará nos próximos meses.

Ela gosta de escolher o sapato que vai usar, escolhe os acessórios mais coloridos que puder, e também quer escolher o que a mamãe vai usar (principalmente o sapato).

Ta numa perfeição tão completa que eu queria parar o tempo agora mesmo! Apesar de todo estresse pra comer. É só ela desenhar uma princesa pra mim que compensa!

Look who is drawing!! How I waited for this day to come! It felt like it would never happen, although I know she is in the "right" moment... How wonderful! Now I keep bugging the kid to draw to me all day long! =) She's so darn cute! Come on, isn't this princess she made wonderful? Isn't it? ^^ I think she will be an artist! \o/


We've also entered the "why?" phase. She asks "why?" for everything, all they long. "why, mommy? why mommy?" Unstoping. I'm trying my best the answer her right, and treat each "why?" as a good teacher would. 


And now she knows how to properly answer me when I ask her what was her favorite part of the day, her least favorite, and why. She thinks, and she gives me her reasons. Isn't it adorable? She is taking swimming classes again and we already turned in the paperwork for her to start preschool in the next months.


She likes to chose which shoes is she going to put on when we go for a walk, she choses her brightes accessories and she also wants to chose what I will be wearing (specially my shoes).


She is so prefectly perfect taht I wish I could freeze this moment! Even though we have our battles at meal times. She only needs to draw me a princess and I'll feel fine again!

Small Style #10

Ah, estes sapatos. Nova paixão da Lilla. Não quer mais tirar dos pés!

Oh, those shoes. Lilla's new passion. Won't take them off ever!

Hoje foi um dia daqueles mais difíceis. Lilloca com uma dose extra de grudentice somada ao seu nível super-bonder habitual. Acho que a culpa é dos dentes, os últimos molares que estavam faltando estão aparecendo, tão lindos!
A encrenca é que a isso se soma uma quantidade de trabalho acima do normal e numa época do mês que não ajuda. O resultado dessa conta é uma mamãe bem menos paciente.... Principalmente na saga do almoço. Veja bem, a Lilla não gosta de comer. De tudo que ela não puxou de mim, tinha que ter puxado justo isso. A falta de apetite.
Eu lembro bem, eu era igual. Ela não gosta de mastigar, não gosta de engolir. Tem preguiça. Igualzinho eu era.

O almoço aqui em casa é um baita exercício de paciência. Não tô exagerando: a criatura leva de 2h a 3h pra acabar de almoçar!! A fase 1 é ela comendo sozinha, bem fofa, na sua mesinha. A fase 1 não dura muio, logo passa pra fase 2: "mãe, me ajuda!"

E essa ajuda não é só sentar junto, e dar a colherada na boca. É fazer cada colherada com uns míseros 3 grãos de arroz, porque senão "tem muito, eu não consigo mastigar". É correr atrás da criança que se esconde pelos 4 cantos da casa assim que vê a colher vindo em sua direção. Daí então proceder ao convencer a abrir a boca. E esperar uns bons 10min até ela terminar de mastigar e engolir, entremeados de lembretes orais do tipo "mastiga filha!" e "engole a comidinha por favor!". É a trilha sonora oficial do meio dia.

E alguém reparou a TV o fundo? Pois é. A prova cabal de que eu sou uma mãe terrível, dessas que deixa o filho ver TV na hora do almoço. Acredite-me, é a única coisa que a convence a ficar paradinha por uns míseros minutinhos.

Today was one of those days. A harder mommy day. Lilla sporting an extra layer of clingyness (on top of her regular "above level" type of clingyness). I blame it on those new milk teeth, some new molars are showing and I think they might be annoying her.
The trouble is that I have a pile of work to get done too. The result is a much less patient mommy. Specially when it comes to feeding. Lilla doesn't enjoy eating. From the long list of  things she haven't taken after me... My bad childhood apetite wasn't one of them. 
Unfortunatelly I remember how I hated eating, how chewing was like a punishment, and swallowing was a waste of my precious time. Oh my, was I a handfull.
Lilla is just like me on that matter.


Lunch time here in our home is a HUGE patience exercise. Lilla might take up to 3 whole hours to finish eating!! Level 1 consists on her neatly eating by herself on her kid sized table. Level 1 doesn't last long. It's soon followed by level 2: "mom, come and help me!"


Helping her isn't only putting food on her spoon and feeding her. Oh, no. She only accepts like 3 grains of rice each time, because if it's more than that "I can't chew, my mouth is too full!". Than I have to chase her all around the house. Than I have to convince her to open her mouth, and once the food is in, be sure to wait at least 10 minutes for her to finally swallow it, after several reminders like "baby, please chew your food" and "swallow your rice and beans, you can do it". 


Oh, did you see that? Yep. The TV is on. Blame it on me. I'm the bad mother who allows the kid to watch TV during lunch time. Believe me, it seems to be the only way to keep her still for a couple of minutes.

Acabou o almoço? UFA! O mundo tem cores outra vez, a vida volta a fazer sentido! A criança volta a ser fofinha e linda e a sanidade começa a voltar pra minha cabecinha. Bem a tempo de me poupar um ataque de nervos. Não riam de mim!

Lunch is over? Relief! Finally I can concentrate again on how pretty and cute the girl is, instead of a non-eating little crazy baby monster (a cute monster, indeed, don't get me wrong!). And I can be a good mommy again. Just in time to stop me from having a nervous break down. (hey, don't laugh at me!)

E olha que fofo, ela ganhou este cavalinho de balanço da Vovó Nice! O nome dele é Triunfo (e eu estou juntando idéias para em breve deixá-lo bem lindão).

Artes de Páscoa / Easter crafts

Hoje nós tivemos uma perfeita sexta-feira de Páscoa! Rodrigo me surpreendeu com uma folga inesperada (pra minha tristeza saudadosa, ele sempre trabalha nos feriados) e então pudemos ficar juntinhos hoje! Eu resolvi me dar feriado também. Tenho trabalhado tanto nos últimos dias, hoje mereciamos esse tempinho pra nós, pra comemorar a Páscoa em família. Então eu separei coisas que tinhamos em casa para uma atividade de Páscoa. Vocês querem nos acompanhar?

Este foi o material que usei:
-folha grande de papel na qual eu desenhei uma cruz
-palitos de sorvete
-um coração que cortei em feltro
-tinta vermelha/rosa
-1 batata cortada em formato de coração
-cola

Começamos falando sobre a Páscoa, peguei meu material das aulas da Escolinha Dominical para contar de novo a história para a Lilla (tenho contado e recontado a história a semana toda). Falei sobre a ceia (por isso o pãozinho e as uvas nos potinhos), sobre a crucificação e a ressurreição. E depois partimos para a nossa arte de páscoa!

Eu passei cola na cruz e todos nós juntos fomos colando nela os palitinhos. "A cruz era de madeira, muito pesada!" Eu lembrava à Lilla as partes da história enquanto colávamos.

Today we enjoyed a perfect Easter Friday! Rodrigo surprised me with a day off from work (he always works on holidays, and I miss him so much) and we stayed all together. Happy! I gave myself a day off from work too. I've been working so much these last days, today we all deserved a family-only day.
So I went through the house sorting craft material so we could make some Easter activities. Do you want to craft along?


This is what I used:
-a big sheet of paper, wher I've drawn a large cross
-popsicle sticks
-a heart cutted out of felt
-red/pink gouache
-1 potato carved into heart stamps
-glue


We started talking about what is the Easter. I grabbed my Sunday school supplies and retold Lilla the wonderful story we are celebrating today (I've been telling her the story every day, all week long). I talked about the last supper (that's why you can see some bread and grapes inside the cups on the picture above), about the cross and about how Christ risen from the dead. Than we started our activity!


I've putted glue inside the cross drawing, so we could use the sticks to build the cross. "The cross was made of wood, and was very heavy" -I would tell her parts of the story as we glued the sticks.

Quando a cruz ficou prontinha, eu passei cola bem no meio e entreguei à Lilla o coração de feltro. "Esse coração representa o amor de Jesus por nós. Foi porque Ele nos amou TANTO, que Ele morreu no nosso lugar!"

A Lilla colou o grande coração vermelho lá no meio da cruz.

"Quando Jesus morreu, Ele nos atraiu a morrer com Ele! Assim, quem crê em Jesus morre com Ele na cruz. Nossa velha natureza morre e é substituída pela vida de Cristo!"

Aí nós pegamos os carimbos de coração e molhamos na tinta, fazendo vários coraçõezinhos sendo atraídos para a cruz...

When we were done with the sticks, I handed Lilla the big felt heart. "This heart represents Jesus's love for us. It was because of His BIG big love that he died in our place!"


Lilla glued the heart on the middle of the cross.


"When Jesus died, He attracted us to die with Him! So, all of us who believe in Jesus, died with Him on that cross. Our old nature died, now we have a new life: Christ's life!!"


We grabbed the potato stamps to make the hearts being attracted to the cross.

A atividade foi super proveitosa, serviu direitinho para ilustrarmos a Páscoa! Lilla adorou. E eu adorei mais ainda. Ela prestou uma atenção... É incrível como uma mente tão pequenininha consegue apreender uma idéia tão grandiosa com seu coraçãozinho puro de criança!

The activity was really fun and usefull. It worked perfectelly as an Easter illustration. Lilla loved it. And I loved even more. Lilla paid such close attention. It's amazing to see how such a tiny little kid can understand such a grand idea! Oh, the pure hearts of the children... So pretty, so beatiful, so special!

Depois fizemos ainda outra atividade, baseada numa que vi no Pinterest.

Eu contei à Lilla como na Bíblia Jesus é chamado de cordeiro de Deus. E nós, com a vida de Jesus no nosso coração, somos então ovelhinhas também. Expliquei que somos ovelhinhas muito amadas, e o Senhor é o nosso maravilhoso Pastor!

Nós pintamos nossas mãos com tinha e carimbamos numa folha verde. Depois colamos pedacinhos de algodão para formar a lã das ovelhinhas:

I told Lilla about how the Bible calls Jesus the True Lamb of God. And that we, with Jesus Christ's life in us, are little lambs too. Beloved little lambs, with the Lord as our Sheperd!

We've painted our hands and made hand prints on a green sheet of paper, than we've glued some cotton pieces to look like the lambs' fur:

Bom dia, semana! / Good morning, new week!

Eu e Rodrigo somos pessoas da manhã. Acordamos cantando bom dia, sabe? Felizes, dispostos e cheios de energia... Era de se esperar que nossos filhos puxassem a gente né? Mas não. Não é o caso da Lilla! Ela acorda com uma nuvem cinza na cabeça. Ranzinza que só. Tanto do sono da noite, quanto da soneca da tarde. Não tente brincar com ela. Nem conversar. Ela geralmente fica em "loading" por uns bons 20 minutos. Como pode caber um mau humor tão grande num serzinho tão pequenininho e fofo?? Alguém me explica?

Rodrigo and I are morning people. We wake up singing good morning, you know? Happy and filled with energy... Some would say that our kids would be just like us... but no. No, Lilla is definitely not a morning person. She wakes up with a gray cloud above her head. Grumpy as can be. From her night sleep AND from her afternoon naps. Do not try to play with her. Or even talk to her. She'll stay on the "loading" window for at least 20 minutes. How can such a big bucket of bad mood fit into such a little and cute girl? I don't know!

Alissa foi pra casa nova dela no início da semana! E as bonecas de Chapéuzinho e Vovó estão quase prontas também. Já já trago foto.

Alissa went to her new home on monday. And Little Red and Granny dolls are almost fully dressed now. I'll show pictures soon!

E nos últimos dias tivemos os primeiros dias "friozinhos" do ano. Porque, né, 21ºC pra carioca é praticamente inverno glacial!

E no fim de semana passado fizemos um dos nossos passeios prediletos com uns de nossos amigos mais especiais: Letícia & família. E o ponto fofo do dia foi a mamãe dela, Fernanda, contando que a Lele, ansiosa pelo passeio, falou assim: "estou LOUCA pra ver a Lilla!"

This last week greeted us with the first cold days of the year. You see, 70ºF for us in Rio is practicaly glacial winter type of cold.


And last weekend we went to one of our favorite places with some of our most special friends, Leticia and family. And the high cute-point of the day was Leticia's mom, Fernanda, telling us that Leticia, anxious for the play-date, said: "I'm mad about seeing Lilla today!"

E o meu ponto alto da semana foi a Lilla me abraçando e dizendo: "mamãezinha, você é o amor da minha vida!" Pronto, derreti!

Mais bonecas! / More dolls!

A família continua crescendo! Mas dessa vez foi culpa desta duplinha, encomendada por uma mamãe:

The family keeps on growing!
But this time, it was specifically this two girl's fault:

 Uma chapéuzinho e uma vovó, foi o que ela pediu. E eu quis criar a chapeuzinho mais fofa e a vovózinha mais doce que eu fosse capaz. Elas ainda estão sem roupinha, pois eu estava esperando chegarem pelo correio os paninhos especiais que a mamãe dona das bonecas comprou especialmente para a ocasião.
Junto delas, nasceram também outras bonequinhas, pois eu queria fazer um teste, que deu certo: Se se tem que fazer uma boneca, deve-se fazer várias, em série. Ao mesmo tempo é mais proveitoso.

Assim nasceu a Alissa, que já está disponível na lojinha, corre lá! Alissajá foi adotada, e está indo pra sua nova mamãe na segunda.

A Little Red and a Grandma doll. A sweet lady custom ordered them for her daughter. And I've set my mind on creating the most cute Little Red and the most sweet granny I could. They are still naked gals because I was waiting for some special fabric to arrive from the mail so I could make their clothes. Along with this girls, others were born, because I wanted to test something, and this was what I've found out: it is easier to make dolls in a row. If I have to make one, is better to make more. I take at least 4 to 5 days to complete one doll like this, but if I make others together, I can acomplish 4 dolls in up to 7 days. It is hard work, but totally worth it!


So, there came Alissa. She is for sale on the shop now, go and check her out! Alissa was already adopted and is going to her new mama on monday.

E o Felipe, numa tentativa de fazer um bebê com características certinhas do corpo. Ele é um menininho, pois a Lilla quis assim! O molde ainda está em teste, mas assim que eu acertar as coisinhas que deram errado no processo, faço um destes pra botar na lojinha também!

And Felipe was my atempt on making a baby like doll, with ten fingers and ten toes. He is a little boy, 'cause Lilla requested so. His pattern is still being tested, as I've hit some bumps on the road with this one. But as soon as I have it all figured out, I'll make on of this available at the shop too.

Já a Camila, eu terminei há um tempo atrás, quando estava ensinando uma amiga a fazer bonecas também. E ela, como se vê pela foto, já está bem encardidinha... Porque ela virou a preferida da Lilla! Tem ido conosco pra rua todo dia. Pro mercado, pra pracinha, pra passear de bicicleta... Dorme junto, é amassada, girada, usada como travasseiro... E aí a Camila está já mostrando marcas de todo esse amor. O que, na verdade me deixa bem feliz. Pois enquanto isso a Lilla vai aprendendo a cuidar de uma bonequinha que é companheira mas delicada, precisa de amor mas de gentileza também.

Eu também aprendi com a Camila. Ela foi minha tutora de cabelos: experimentando nela eu consegui descobrir um bom jeito de prender cada fio de lã à cabeça, de forma segura pra ficar sempre ajeitadinho!

And Camila was ready long before. I made her while teaching a friend of mine how to make a waldorf doll. You can see she has some "love marks". And she is kinda dirty. That's because she turned out to be Lilla's favorite doll ever. She comes along in our trips to the park, visits to the grocery store, bike rides... She often sleeps with her too, she is grabed, twisted, used as a pillow... Camila may be a little crooked now, but that makes me happy. She is well loved! I bet she is happy herself, too. 
Meanwhile, Lilla is learning about being gentle with her toys, because Camila is sturdy, but delicate. 


It warms my heart to see Lilla playing so lovingly with a toy I've made her with all my love!


I've learned a lot from Camila myself too. She was my test drive in doll hair sewing. I've sewed her hair string by string to her head. I did it worng  and tryed it again several times until I was pleased with the results.

E se você prestar atenção nesta foto de todo mundo junto, vai reparar num rapazinho sobre o qual eu não falei hoje... Ele fica pra amanhã, num post só dele. Porque ele é meu presente pra vocês! E aí, quem quer ganhar um bonequinho aqui no blog levanta a mão!!

Um post enorme / A ginormous post

Alguém sente a minha falta? A coisa tá feia por aqui. Vamos dizer assim: É claro que estou super grata pela perspectiva de ter uma linda casa onde futuramente vamos morar. Mas desejo de coração que nunca jamais tenhamos que passar por uma obra enorme de novo. E ponto final.

Vamos à parte boa?

A produção da lojinha anda intensa. Eu aceitei pedidos de encomendas de costura nos últimos meses, coisa que eu antes não fazia. O que significou muito trabalho extra. Uma das encomendas foi um kit de boneca e bichinhos como os da última festa da Lilla:

Does anyone miss me? Things are kinda ugly here. Lets put it this way: Though I'm really grateful for the perpective of having a pretty house where we'll futurally live in, I wish with all my heart that we never ever have to go through such a big home makeover again. Period. Moving on.

Work work work. This has been the motto of my life latelly. Besides the drawing, I took some sewing costume orders this past months, for the firts time ever. One of the orders was this: doll and critters, like the ones I did for Lilla's birthday:

E ainda teve outras bonecas, tipo waldorf, em fase final de produção. Aliás, quem gosta delas, fique de olho. Vou disponibilizar duas novas: uma (que está pronta, e tão lindinha!!) na lojinha nos próximos dias. E outra menor, tipo bebê, de giveaway por aqui!

E será que alguém quer ver os últimos (acumulados, eu sei, sorry!) vestidos? Acho que não atualizo eles por aqui desde o ano passado, né?

And this bunny skirt was made as a gift for Mel, dear Marcia's daughter who just turned 6. She had a cute party to celebrate:

Detalhe que eu não consegui tirar uma única foto da aniversariante, que pirulitou, correu e pulou a festa inteira pra lá e pra cá. Sinal de que ela realmente se divertiu! Apesar de a maioria das crianças da festa ser "grande", Lilla teve a Aika pra brincar com ela. As duas se dão super bem, é uma gracinha de ver!

Ah, amigos! A vida seria muito chata sem eles né?
Eu acho muito engraçado que alguns amigos meus a Lilla tem como sendo amigos dela também.
Os dindos eu entendo, afinal são os dindos... têm uma ligação muito especial. Mas ela também ama a Tia Carol e o Tio Alan. E quando chamamos eles todos para um sábado gostoso aqui em casa, nem me preocupei com a ausência de outras crianças pra ela brincar. Quem precisa de crianças quando se tem amigos grandes tão legais quanto os pequenos!!

I wasn't able to snap a single picture of the birthday girl. She was too busy dancing, playing, jumping, runnig around with her friends! Good for her, certainly!
Although the party was focused on the bigger kids, Lilla had Aika to play with. They both get along so well... It's heart warming to watch!


Ah, friends. Life would be dull without them!
I find it funny that Lilla thinks that some of my friends are actually hers.
The Godparents I understand, they do have a special bond... But she also loves Auntie Carol and Uncle Alan. (Here in Brazil it is common that kids call any grown up as "aunt" and "uncle"). So, when we invited them all to come spend a saturday evening with us, I didn't even worry about Lilla having no little friends to play with. Who needs little friends, when you have such nice and funny big friends?

Ficamos conversando sobre como é bacana (pelo menos aos nossos olhos) a Lilla crescer cheia de tios "legais": Praticamento todo mundo tem um trabalho divertido, entre animadores, ilustradores, fotógrafos, artistas... Se ela quiser seguir a área de artes, está muito bem servida de tutores!


O apego da Lilla por alguns dos "amigos grandes" chega ao ponto de ela requerer a presença deles. Semana passada, por exemplo, cismou que queria brincar com a Tia Lindinha. Me fez telefonar pra ela, pra convidá-la pra vir aqui em casa. E a Linda (que não resiste à Lilla também!) num instantinho arrumou uma manhã livre pra fugir e vir pra cá, brincar e almoçar conosco!

We talked about how nice it is (at least through our eyes) for Lilla to have so many great aunts and uncles. Almost every one of us have a fun job. We are illustrators, designers, photographers, animators... If she ever wishes to follow carrer in arts, she is well served regarding possible tutors!


Lilla's love for some of her "big friends" is so true, that sometimes she requests one of them. Last week was auntie Linda's turn. Lilla insisted on inviting her to come to our house, so she talked to her on the phone and invited her herself. And auntie Lindinha, who loves Lilla back, arranged a free morning to come stay with us!

A Linda é minha amiga desde a época da faculdade. Nos conhecemos há dez anos atrás quando entramos juntas para o curso de artes. Nós eramos inseparáveis naquela época! =)
E a Lilla a adora, porque a Tia Lindinha brinca feito criança. Corre, pula, grita e faz careta! ahahah!

No mais, os nossos dias continuam, sim, cheios de crianças também. A pracinha voltou a agradar (ah, crianças pequenas e suas emoções voláteis...) e voltamos a ir pra lá quase todas as manhãs.

E as tardes estão mais cheias de trabalho do que nunca. Tenho feito jornada dupla e trabalhado madrugada adentro pra dar conta das encomendas da lojinha (as ilustrações personalizadas estão fazendo fila!)
Aliás, quem pretende comprar uma, aviso que é bom correr: na época da mudança vou retirá-las da loja por um tempo (elas são trabalho duro, e eu não acho que eu daria conta no meio do caos que serão as primeiras semanas pós mudança).

Linda is my friend from college years. We've met 10 years ago, when we were both freshmans at Art School. We were inseparable back then! =)
And Lilla loves her, because she plays just like a kid. She runs, she jumps, she screams and make funny faces! 


Thought Lilla has such nice big friends, her life is still full of little friends too. The local park is back in the game (oh, toddlers and their volatile emotions...) so we are back to going there almost every morning.
And the afternoons, oh man, those are filled with job hours. I've been working through the night to keep up with my dead lines. And the custom drawings now have a waiting line. Whichs reminds me: if you wish to buy one of those, don't wait too long: as soon as we move in to the new house, I'll stop offering those for a while.  They are hard work, and I'm affraid I wouldn't be able to manage it along with a new house to settle in.

Deixo você com esses sorrisos, pq né? Coisa mais fofa! Lilla e Raul. Se amam. Só que é assim: quando um quer abraçar, o outro não quer. Quando o outro quer, o um não quer mais. A mesma regra vale pra dar as mão, e dar beijos. Maior comédia. Momento assim, dos dois dando abracinho, JUNTOS, de boa vontade... Raro! Que bom que deu pra capturar em foto!

I'll leave you with this double smile because, come on! Can't get any cutter than that. These two love each other. But it usually goes like this: when one wants to hug, the other doesn't. If the other changes mind, the one now refuses it. The same thing goes to hold hands, kisses, and cuddles. So funny!
A moment like this, they BOTH hugging and similing is trully rare. So glad I managed to snap a pic!
